Certificate II in Animal Care

On Friday 2nd of June the VET Animal Care students had the opportunity to learn how to handle and restrain farm animals, with a visit from the Myuna Farm Mobile Ark team as part of their animal care module. The Animal Care course allows students participate in a number of hands-on activities, helping them to apply their learning in real-life situations, all whilst gaining a certification. In 2024 our College will be delivering a 1st year VET Animal Care qualification onsite, so please head to the Careers/MIPS office in the Sturt Building to speak to the new VET/Careers Coordinator Kylie Borchers for more information.

Certificate II in Commercial Cookery

This year we have changed from Kitchen Operations to Certificate II in Commercial Cookery. This course is an accredited course where students can go on to apprenticeships, and other avenues of hospitality. This class has grown from last year, with all students making great progress so far.

The new units are focused more on practice-based work, with students learning on the go. The studies include 12 cooking challenges, preparing dishes for special functions, with students having already completed 3. These include two lunches, and a morning tea, with students progressing onto more complex dining experiences such as dinners in Terms 3 and 4. The components consist of students creating invitations for 20-30 guests, with a set menu, whilst working in commercial kitchen brigade setting. Some of our students already have experience in commercial kitchens so expectations will be high.

We encourage families to try one of this semester’s recipes, during the school holidays:

Certificate II in Horticulture

Our Horticulture Students have been working on building raised garden beds at Koo Wee Rup Secondary College.
In the coming weeks, the students will be creating a herb garden, further raised vegetable gardens, focusing on propagating plants. Students are actively working in the school community to support the implementation of Paddock to Plate Program which was first established in 2022.
If you are interested in enrolling into VET Certificate II Horticulture traineeship for 2024, or if you have questions about the program, please visit the Careers/MIPS team for more information.
